Building Better Americans
go·ruck [verb go + verb ruck] noun ruck is short for rucksack (aka backpack), it’s also a verb: to ruck is to move with a rucksack, and implies action, energy, and purpose.
We build the best gear right here in the USA, we lead team-building endurance events based on our experiences in Special Forces, and we love to ruck.

A friend of ours, C.C. Chapman, interviewed Jason in 2012 about his vision for GORUCK. Check it out.
I signed up for the military after 9/11 because of 9/11 and eventually served with some of the most elite warfighters in the history of the world: the Green Berets. GORUCK is based in every way on the lessons I learned in this community, both in training and in war.
My goals with GORUCK are to (1) serve as a voice for good, (2) employ more Veterans of Special Operations than any organization outside the US military, and (3) build a bridge between the military and civilian worlds. This started with GR1 and continued with The Challenge and people rucking together became the focus and welcome to GORUCK.
10th Special Forces Group, 2006-08
Rucking is the foundation for Special Forces training and it’s the foundation for everything GORUCK, including our gear. Whether you’re in New York City, Baghdad, the Rockies, or at any of our Events, GORUCK gear thrives. We proudly build it in the USA and offer a Scars Lifetime Guarantee as proof that quality is life and death to us.
So Ruck Hard, Play Hard.
Jason started The Challenge to (1) test gear before it would go to war and (2) prove the gear’s mettle to anyone who would show up. Meaning, our events started out as an afterthought to the gear. But as The Challenge showed people that they are capable of so much more than they ever thought possible, people became our focus. Rucking together became our focus. Building Better Americans became our focus.
And every day, under rucks all over the world, GORUCK Nation grows.
Special Forces Cadre
cad·re ['ka-,dre] noun… A key group of military personnel able to establish and train a new unit.
The foundation of all GORUCK Events is the wartime experiences of our Cadre. They are all decorated combat Veterans of Special Operations who have served America, and Americans, honorably across the globe. Through GORUCK, their service continues at home, as they are tasked to teach people how to overcome adversity as individuals and as teammates. In that process, our Cadre are building a bridge between the civilian and military worlds, and they’re Building Better Americans.
Java and the Monster
Without Java, there would be no GORUCK. As Jason was transitioning out of the military and starting GORUCK, Java was in the right place at the right time. His story is the story of how GORUCK survived its beginning.
We love dogs because they make life a better place. Especially if you’re transitioning out of the military or already in the civilian world post-military service, we recommend you get one. Pets for Patriots is a great resource that we support.
Java passed away in 2013 and his legacy lives on at GORUCK with Monster.
